This is one of our favourite Instagram pictures from our trip to the States last year.
It’s from when we went on a romantic sunset sailing cruise on the Hudson River. It’s a beautiful thing to do in NYC while you’re there. Here’s our post on sailing the Hudson River.
Looks like it’s going to be a busy week ahead – lots of articles coming up. And then we’ve got a busy weekend planned too!
I love the sandwiches at Little Vienna on Hunter Street, Sydney. I only spoil myself with one every now and then – these things are enormous!
Today’s post is about how to prepare for attending a destination wedding. We’ve been to quite a few in the last few years. This picture was taken at our friends’ wedding in Tuscany. They’d rented a whole castle in the Italian countryside. It was amazing and we’re really pleased we went.
If you’re ever invited to one, do it. It’s well worth the extra spend on travel.
Mrs Romance is up very early this morning. She’s up so early that she gets to see today’s sunrise. It’s pretty extraordinary, isn’t it? It’s also perfect for the Fat Mum Slim photo-a-day Instagram challenge today. The prompt is ‘Sunshine’ after all.
Are you playing along with Chantelle’s photo a day challenge? It’s great fun and easy to join in with. Just add the hashtag #fmsphotoaday to your picture. The daily prompts and further details for photo a day are here on Fat Mum Slim.
We talk about our favourite place for dinner in Orange on the site today. Fiorini’s Ristorante Italiano is a great little spot, owned and run by two Italian ladies who have moved to Orange from Rome. It’s byo so you can pick and choose any delicious bottle of local wine you feel like drinking here.
Here’s our review of Fiorini’s. If you’re in Orange at the weekend, make sure you call and book a table here. You won’t regret it!
I head up to the roof of our apartment building to check out the sunset tonight. It’s a pretty good effort, I reckon. This one also went on the Fat Mum Slim photo challenge. I like our rooftop. It’s nice and high, and you can see so much. There’s nothing like being up high.
It reminds me how much Mrs R and I like rooftop bars. We hunt them out wherever we go. Here’s our He Said, She Said about rooftop bars.
Coffee time at About Life in Bondi Junction. It’s a pretty good coffee and an excellent breakfast of bacon and eggs. I reckon that’s got to be one of my favourite things to have for brekky. Can’t really get better than bacon, can you?!
Next we head to see Stevie English – Mrs Romance’s hairdresser. His salon in Bondi is very cool. It’s great to catch up with him and to watch Mrs R’s transformation!
Here’s Mrs R at about the midway point of her hair appointment. It’s an interesting look, isn’t it?
This week’s Friday Drinks features two little pubs in the UK called Ye Olde Albion and The Anchor. They’re great pubs – one only serves beer (but very very good beer) and the other specialises in food. They service the little riverside village of Rowhedge very well indeed.
It’s friday, it’s hot and we have some Tanqueray gin. It’s as if the gods have done it on purpose – so who are we to argue? Gin and tonics are the order of the day! Cheers everyone!
Today would have been Mrs Romance’s dad’s birthday. Every year the family goes to dinner somewhere nice. We head out on the river ferry heading up the Parramatta River from Circular Quay, under the Harbour Bridge to Cabarita. It’s a lovely trip and a nice way to celebrate my father-in-law’s birthday.
Dinner at Angelo’s on the Bay in Cabarita is great. I’m sure Mrs R’s dad would have approved. We order a mini dessert selection plate. It looks pretty good, doesn’t it?
I think this would be an excellent evening out for someone visiting Sydney. We might just be doing a review on this place soon.
Mrs R’s sister has a new member to her family! meet Monty. Isn’t she sweet. During dinner, Mrs R’s sister tells us all the fun they’ve been having with this furry little sweetheart. Wonder if we’ll get a chance to cat sit?
This morning, I get to indulge on one of my other favourite breakfasts. We’re preparing for a big night ahead with our friends’ wedding in a few hours. I get this at Two Good Eggs – a nearby cafe.
It’s called Goats on Toast and it’s excellent. Toasted sour cherry loaf with melted goat’s cheese, smashed walnuts, honey and apple make up a delicious and unique start to my day.
Meanwhile on the blog, we discuss how to divide shared wardrobe space with this week’s He Said, She Said.
Our friends’ wedding is stunning. It’s at Pilu – a beautiful restaurant overlooking Freshwater Beach.
Mrs Romance does Sam from The Annoyed Thyroid’s hair as well as her own for the wedding. How good do they look?
Here’s the view from the wedding venue. The beach is pretty busy so we’re happy we’re up high with the promise of an excellent dinner and some great speeches.
Mrs R loves the decorations at Pilu. These giant balloons are all full of Helium. It’s all I can do to resist breathing in a whole one and talking like a chipmunk for the rest of the evening!
This morning, after the wedding, I recognise Mrs R needs a bit of TLC so I make her eggs the way she likes them. I prefer poached eggs but she likes hers fried with a nice crispy egg white. Just so you know!
After breakfast this morning, we collect our thoughts then Mrs R heads to Opera Bar in Sydney Opera House for drinks with friends. It’s got to be one of the best views from any bar in Sydney. Mrs R loves it here.
Love the reflection (or should that be refraction?!) of the bridge through the drink. Nice work, Mrs R!
Where’s you’re favourite pew with a view when you’ve got a drink in hand? Tell us in the comments.

Honestly? Our backyard. We were sitting on the swingchair yesterday arvo, glass of Pinot Grigio in hand, looking back at our house and I felt such a strong feeling of pride wash over me. More than 2 years of hard work has gone into our place and my husband Chris has done so much of that. And the best part? The view is only going to get better once the pool is finished!
