He Said, She Said: rooftop bars – why are they so good?

*The most exciting thing about He Said, She Said is wondering if we’ll still be married by the end of each post! We both write on the same topic but only get to read the other’s work after it’s published.*

He said: when you can’t get out, go up!

She said: Look up, you may find your new favourite bar!

He said She said - rooftop bars

What’s more, he says:

To me, rooftop bars are the best form of escape. I don’t want to go too far from the city. To me, up is out enough.

I’m not a city boy. I wasn’t brought up in the big smoke. I technically count as a Londoner, but I lived most of my childhood away from the chaos of city life. It’s clearly in my blood though: I love living in Sydney and most of our holidays are city breaks.

Once in a while, though, it all gets a bit too much and I need to get away. I don’t mean a trip to the country. That’s taking it a bit far; and camping? With Mrs Romance? Forget about it! No, all I seek is a refuge – a place where I can sit, drink a good beer, a strong cocktail, or even have a fine cigar away from the streets, smells and all the manic nonsense of the city.

By and large, people slow down a bit when they get to a rooftop bar. They stop pushing as much, they talk less and they breathe easier. That’s what I go up top for. And I tell you what, it’s addictive!

And another thing, she says:

I love being up high.

I have no fear of heights whatsoever. I adore being up high and looking out over an amazing view.

I don’t even care if it’s an average view, I just love seeing people go about their daily lives. I’m an avid people watcher and rooftop bars take it to the next level.

Living it the city, it can feel claustrophobic at times. Getting up high is my antidote to this. Rooftop bars are one of the benefits of city living.

Relax and feel the breeze above the traffic. Rooftop bars are a perfect escape from the noise below.

Whenever we’re travelling, we always look up rooftop bars to visit. You get a good lay of the land and can orient yourself in a new place from up high. They’re also usually the coolest bars around.

Next time you’re walking around your city, or on holidays, look up. You may spot a secret rooftop bar that will become your new favourite place.
