I don’t know about you, but Christmas is coming up way to quickly for us. I don’t know why though. It’s the same every year. December always sneaks up on us and before we know it, we’re running around like mad buying last-minute presents and making celebration plans for the holidays.
Last week was the perfect example of this with plenty going on – not to mention some pretty wild weather.
Here’s our latest IG Edition. We hope you enjoy it!

We’re out catching up with a friend of ours in Balmain today. We’ve decided to check out Cafe d’Yvoire. Their coffee’s excellent and this – their almond croissant is absolutely delicious. I wonder if it’s because it’s their very last one!
Tonight the sky’s gone crazy over Sydney. This amazing storm has been rolling around above the city all night. We’ve managed to get a few pretty cool shots of the lightning. What do you think?
We love storms – though maybe Mrs Romance and I should be a bit more careful around them. After all, we were hit by lightning when we first met!
It’s finally arrived – the day of the great Christmas pub crawl. Every year for the last 6 years, a friend of ours has organised the 12 Pubs of Christmas bar hop through Balmain. Now that we live here, it’s only right we should give it a try!
Here’s the map of the route. We to start at the Balmain Hotel, then Dick’s, the Unity Hotel, the Cricketer’s Arms, the London Hotel, the Royal Oak, the Dry Dock Hotel, the Sir William Wallis, the Town Hall, the Riverview Hotel, the Cat and Fiddle and finally the Workers’ Club.
Quite the journey!
This is the biggest year yet for the 12 Pubs of Christmas. As we walk from one pub to the next, our group fills the narrow back streets of the suburb. It feels like somewhere between going to a football game and a zombi apocalypse movie!
Finally we’ve got the majority of the group together for a quick photo. Can you spot me and Mrs Romance?
And the man of the moment: this is Colom. This is the guy who started the whole thing. I think he’s having a good night!
Mrs Romance is out at Bondi Beach today (I’m still at home licking my wounds). What a perfect day to be at the beach. You can tell it’s still early in the season – this beach will have more people than sand on it when summer really kicks in. You can see why it’s so popular; such a pretty beach.
At the southern end of Bondi is Icebergs – a public pool, a Surf Lifesaving Club, and very cool bar and restaurant. This is one of our top tips for where to go when you’re in Bondi.
And if you’re looking for what else there is to do in this – Australia’s most famous beach suburb – check out our guide to 24 hours in Bondi.
Last week’s posts
In case you didn’t catch them, here are our favourite posts from last week.
In our latest He Said, She Said, Mrs Romance and I are discussing what’s better: to have a real Christmas tree or a fake one. Check out what the outcome is. We love writing these ‘duet’ pieces, so if you’ve got any ideas for what you’d like to see us talk about from a woman’s and a man’s perspective, let us know!
We’ve put together a collection of the top gift ideas for men this Christmas. It’s mostly stuff I would like to see under my tree this year, so it comes from an authentic, honest place.
If you’re short of ideas of what to get your man – or if you’re a man trying to think of what to say when people ask you what you want, here are our best ideas.
Make sure you never miss another post. Sign up to our weekly newsletter that I send out every Friday. In it is a rundown of the week’s posts plus news on what’s going on with us. We also give you exclusive notice on any competitions we’re running or prizes we’re giving away.
This week’s Travel Recap
Each week we go back in time over some of our favourite travel destinations using never-before-seen photos of our travels. Here’s where we’ve been looking back on this week.
This is the best way to be spending a hot day in Sydney: by the pool… maybe with a cold beer or a cocktail in your hand. Looking forward to more day like this over the next couple of months!
Mrs Romance has remembered to share some of her photos of her time away in Victoria recently. This is one of the beaches off the coast of Aireys Inlet about an hour and a half south-west of Melbourne. I love scale you get when you eventually spot the tiny people walking along the shore.
Mrs Romance discovered this cool little cafe while she was in Airys Inlet. It just goes to show that even this far out of Melbourne, the coffee culture is still very much intact.
The Aireys Inlet Point Lighthouse shines out over this corner of the Great Ocean Road. It’s a fantastic walk along to the lookout at the end and you can get down to the beach from there too.
This is such a beautiful part of the Australian coastline – well worth the drive.
When she was a kid, Mrs Romance used to have holidays down in Victoria every summer. The water here is pretty chilly this time of year but with the beach looking like this on a busy day, it’s practically perfect.
The beaches in England that I used to visit on my family holidays weren’t quite like this!
