Beaches, burgers and bachelor(ette) parties

Mrs Romance and I love what we’ve created with Romance Media.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 1 Title

We love the adventure we’re on, and I think this text by Tania at @thewriting on Instagram sums up what we’re doing now.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 1aHR1 Mrs R is back on the blogging train as Hair Romance

Mrs Romance is back in business since her break over Christmas and the New Year holiday. Hair Romance is ramping up for a big 2014. She starts the week off with a hair tutorial. Think she’ll pumping out more of these this year if my sources are correct!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 1bHR2 Mrs R works with Laura from This Island Life as photographer

Mrs R was very busy this morning working in her other capacity as a photographer. She was shooting Laura from ThisIslandLife.com at Bondi this morning.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 3 surf's up at Coogee with my bro & fam

Meanwhile, my brother, who lives in Brisbane, is in town with his wife and lovely kids. It’s great to see them. Mrs R has taken them down to Coogee for a swim. I leave work as early as possible and scoot down the beach for a swim too.

The water’s surprisingly rough this afternoon, but it’s not slowing anyone down. It’s a hot one today.

Nice photobomb from the gull by the way!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 4 royale with cheese at the Royal Albert

This evening, I take my bro and the fam to my favourite pub with the promise of the best burgers in Sydney. I’m feeling the pressure, but I needn’t have worried. The Royal Albert Hotel‘s Royale with Cheese is as good – if not better – than it always is.

My brother’s impressed, which takes a bit of doing for this seasoned burger-eating champ!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 4aAB1 Royale with cheese on AB too!

It’s so good in fact, I Instagram two pics – one from @mrandmrsromance and one from @angrybastard.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 5 Mrs R goes jogging at sunrise

This morning – perhaps to counteract last night’s formidable burger frenzy – Mrs Romance is out running on the harbour foreshore. The view from here never gets boring.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 6 Anzac Bridge

We head to Mrs Romance’s mum’s place for the day today. But we’re back just as it’s getting dark. Mrs R is driving so I take the opportunity to snap a pretty cool pic of the Anzac Bridge. Looks like something out of a sci-fi movie or something, doesn’t it?!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 7 my xmas presents arrice

My Christmas presents from Mrs R have finally arrived! It’s actually a lot of fun getting late gifts. Makes the start of a new year, which can sometimes be a bit depressing, a lot more palatable.

Mrs Romance has spoilt me with a Kindle Paperwhite, which is very cool with touch screen functionality. The T-shirts are from a brilliant company called Last Exit to Nowhere. They make clothing with logos from classic and cult films. But the references to the films are really subtle – Mrs R has got me the Amity Police T, which is from Jaws, and the Lighthouse Lounge T from the Goonies.

Some of you guessed the Jaws one, but only one of you got the Goonies reference. It’s not surprising, it’s a pretty obscure reference. The film, however, is an ’80s classic, and if you haven’t seen it, get it on your TV now!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 8 post on the Old Convent

We talk about one of the best brunches we’ve ever had on MrAndMrsRomance.com today. It’s at the Old Convent in Orange, NSW, and the food is brilliant. If you’re in the area, head there for the best Sunday feed you’ll have.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 9 Anzac Memorial & its reflection looking lovely

The Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park and it’s Pool of Reflection is very pretty tonight. You might not realise it at first, but this picture is upside down!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 10 the Big Apple from Empire State Building re our post

On our site today, we talk about how to get up to the top of the Empire State Building in NYC faster than a speeding bullet… well, faster than the rest of the crowd anyway.

If you’re heading to the Big Apple at any point, make sure you go up here. Look at the views – they can’t be beaten… or can they? Top of the Rock’s also pretty good. What do you think?

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 11 another early morning run for Mrs R

Another early start for Mrs Romance this morning gives us all a nice perspective of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. It’s like she’s coming out of a jungle or something. Perhaps she is!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 12 martini o' clock this friday

Finally it’s Friday! I’ve been waiting for a martini all week! It’s been a busy day today, so I think we’ve both earned a wind-down drink.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 13 Burleigh Brewery post

And writing this piece has made me even thirstier. A while ago I went to Burleigh Brewing Company to check out their set-up. The beer almost had me in tears, so we decided to feature their brews on Friday Drinks this week.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 14AB2 suspicious cloud overhead

There’s a very suspicious looking cloud floating over us this afternoon. I don’t know what it’s doing, but it doesn’t look right, does it? I was thinking Bee Gee haircut, but some of you also think it looks like a moustache. I agree. But I still don’t like it.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 15 new shoes for tomorrow's stag do

This morning, Mrs Romance came with me to help do some clothes shopping. My favourite thing from the bags: my new shoes. I don’t like buying shoes much – unlike Mrs R – but I’m happy with these. Hopefully they’ll be nice to me and not rip holes in my delicate tootsies!

The good news is I’ve bought Jeff Banks shoes before and they last well and are comfortable. They’re also pretty good value.

A pair of brown shoes, by the way, is an essential part of a man’s wardrobe, especially if you’re travelling. Here’s more information on what a man should have in his suitcase.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 16 Cohiba Redspot for Friday sundowner

I decide it’s time for a sundowner cigar. I pick out a Cohiba ‘Red Dot’ – so called because of the red dot in the ‘o’. It’s the identifying characteristic of the non-Cuban variety of this famous brand available in the USA.

I’ve been wanting to try these out ever since we brought them back from the States. I think I might just review this one at a later date! 🙂

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 17 dinner by Mrs Romance

After my very decent cigar, Mrs Romance cooks this excellent dinner. This is a lime chicken salad with quinoa, avocado, rocket, kale, pomegranate and fresh figs. Delicious? That’s only halfway there!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 18 He Said She Said NY resolutions

This week’s He Said, She Said talks about whether New Year’s Resolutions work. It’s an interesting one because – as it turns out – we both have the same idea but we express it in very different ways.

It’s kind of how ‘discussions’ between us work. We’re both arguing the same point of view just saying it in a different way!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 19 coffee time

It’s going to be a busy Saturday so we head out to prepare for it. The coffee at Robocog in Surry Hills is pretty good but it’s the food we’re here for.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 20 big breakfast

My big breakfast is formidable. By the end of it I’m so full I have trouble moving! It’s the perfect set up for a big night.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 20aHR3 Sara-May's baby shower

Mrs Romance heads off to her first party of the day. Our lovely friend Sara-May from MakupUtopia.com is having her baby shower. Best of luck, Sara-May. Not long now!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 21 barefoot bowls for Felly's stag

Meanwhile, I’m off to North Sydney Bowling Club. It’s the first part of a stag night (a.k.a bucks party or bachelor party) that should be a lot of fun. Barefoot bowls is a bit of an institution in Australia for stags.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 22 beer after bowls

After the bowls, a few of us head to a nearby pub to discuss the game and analyse our efforts. From here, I’m afraid it’s radio silence. Besides, you probably don’t want to know too many details from here on!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 22aHR4 Mrs R at Hen's night

While I’m having fun with the lads, Mrs R has moved on to her second event of the day: the hens night. Her night starts at Walsh Bay near the Rocks in Sydney. Looks like the ladies are setting themselves up for a good night too.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 22bHR5 Signing off for the night

And much like my enforced silence, this is Mrs Romance’s last pic of the night. I know that one of the two things here happened. Not sure how calm everything’s going to stay though!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 23 healthy dinner after unhealthy weekend

Today’s all about recovering. It’s a relaxed mood here. Things get even better when Mrs R cooks up another delicious dinner. Kale chips, a rocket and tomato salad with truffle vinegar dressing, and a ginger and lemon salmon steak with a mango and chilli salsa.

It’s a healthy end to an otherwise rather unhealthy weekend!

How was your weekend? Tell us about it in the comments!

    Sonia from Sonia Styling

Feeling a bit dusty today. Must have been something in the wine(s) yesterday. Still can’t get enough of that Vinaceous Pinot Grigio! We had a great weekend spent in the company of great friends.
Request: Mrs Romance Recipes! The lady can make a mean meal and I for one need all the help I can get in the kitchen. So come on and dish, Christina!

      Mr Romance

Ah yes, that dusty Monday feeling – there’s nothing quite as depressing, is there, Sonia? The most important thing is to know the dustiness was all worth it. Sounds like it was for you!
I think Mrs R was quite surprised to hear someone asking for her recipes – the kitchen’s not her favourite place in the house! She’s certainly going to put her mind to it though, Sonia, so once again I owe you my thanks!
And we’ll definitely keep an eye open for that Pinot too!
      Jx
