Day 16 of our 30 Cocktails in 30 Days Challenge: the Lady of Leisure
Sunday. God’s day of rest. The slow day. And what better day to include this cocktail? The Lady of Leisure is a great sipping cocktail and one Mrs Romance enjoys when she has a spare half an hour to relax and not think about work… so she doesn’t drink this very often!
I enjoyed this drink too and was trying to think of a way to adapt it to be a Gentleman of Leisure… but couldn’t, especially after a couple! So if by drinking these I become an honorary lady, pass me a skirt, because this one’s delicious!
The Lady of Leisure is surprisingly strong and spritely in spite of its recumbent-sounding name. The gin gives the drink lots of flavour and the Chambord, Cointreau and pineapple juice add sweetness and a rich texture.
How to make a Lady of Leisure
This is what you need:
For each drink
- Single measure of gin
- ½ measure of Chambord
- ½ measure of Cointreau
- Single measure of pineapple juice
- A dash of lemon juice
- A dash of sugar syrup
- Orange and lemon slivers to garnish
- Ice
- Martini glass
- Cocktail shaker, peeler and sharp knife
This is what you do:
- Pour the gin, Chambord, Cointreau, pineapple juice, lemon juice and sugar syrup over ice into the cocktail shaker.
- Shake the drink but not too vigorously.
- Strain into the martini glass.
- Peel lengths of orange and lemon skin and slice them into long thin slivers.
- Intertwine the slivers of peel and place them carefully on the surface of the drink.
You may not need the sugar syrup if you have bought sweetened pineapple juice or if you don’t have a particularly sweet tooth.
