Day 17 of our 30 Cocktails in 30 Days Challenge: the Elder Berry Fizz and the Chambord Pink Fizz

We discovered Chambord when we were first stocking our beloved bar several years ago. We bought it more because we loved the bottle than what was inside it.

Thankfully the contents were as delicious as the bottle itself and we make sure we’ve always got some at home. It’s made from a type of French blackcurrant and although creme de cassis and framboise are similar, they lack the richness and quality Chambord offers.

These two cocktails – the Elder Berry and the Chambord Pink Fizz – are simple but perfect, and the balance of flavours and the colour the Chambord gives the drinks make these worthy inclusions in our 30 Days of Cocktails Challenge.

How to make the Elder Berry and the Chambord Pink Fizz

Here’s what you need:

The Elder Berry – for each drink

  • 1/2 measure of Chambord
  • 1/2 measure of elderflower cordial
  • Top up with Champagne or prosecco
  • Champagne flute
  • Thin twist of lemon and raspberry on a cocktail stick to garnish

Here’s what you do:

  1. Pour the Chambord and elderflower cordial into the flute
  2. Top up with Champagne or prosecco
  3. Skewer one end of the lemon twist and turn it into a spiral around the stick.
  4. Push the raspberry into the stick then twist the lemon spiral around the berry and secure the other end of the lemon peel onto the stick.
  5. Gently space the peel and raspberry out along the stick and place in the cocktail.

The Chambord Pink Fizz – for each drink

  • 1/2 measure Chambord
  • Top up with Champagne or prosecco
  • Champagne flute
  • raspberry to garnish

Here’s what you do:

  1. Pour the Chambord into the flute
  2. Top up with Champagne or presecco
  3. Carefully drop a raspberry open end up into the cocktail so that it floats on the surface.

These are both quite sweet cocktails. The Chambord has a lovely rich flavour and you really won’t need more than 1/2 a measure in each drink. More than this will be overpowering and sickly. Believe me, I’ve tried!
