A gin masterclass, an end-of-summer festival and fun with a drone

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 1 title

So much for autumn coming to Sydney. This is our first Instagram Diary for March – and it was supposed to be a story of how the weather’s made us look for more things to do indoors. As it is, the summer’s had a stay of execution and we’re enjoying skies like these above the Australian Maritime Museum.

We hope you enjoy our latest Instagram Diary. There’s plenty here to keep you entertained!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 2 gin masterclass

Tonight, we’re learning about the delicious complexities of gin. In particular, Australian craft gin. Kathleen Davies owns Nip of Courage, a distributor of Aussie craft spirits like these ones, and she’s also our teacher tonight.

It’s amazing how much I didn’t know about gin, the types of gin, how it’s made, its history, the range of flavours.

There are more masterclasses coming up, too.

Monday 7th March from 7pm: Australian craft rum masterclass and Monday 14th March from 7pm: Australian craft whisky masterclass

Here’s a bit more that we’ve written about Nip of Courage.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 3 breakfast equation

Today we’re talking about breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day, so we’ve created this – the way to work out your perfect breakfast equation!

We’ve used KitchenAid’s new coffee machines and toaster to create this video of how to get the numbers together for this bit of food mathematics:

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - Qatar press conference

Today, we’re at this fascinating press conference. Qatar Airways have just started flying from Sydney airport, and they’re making some pretty big promises. His Excellency Akbar al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways (and owner of one of the best names and titles ever) is the man on the left of the panel.

He’s quite an outspoken controversial character.

Qatar Air sounds like it’s going to stir up flying in Australia and internationally quite a bit. Cheaper flights, faster connections (only 22.5 hours from Sydney to London) and the best service you’ll get in the air. Pretty big words.

But then they did win World’s No. 1 Airline last year from Skytrax. And they do boast not needing a Premium Economy service as they say their regular Economy is premium! They also don’t have a First Class – only Business.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - Parrot drone

This afternoon, we’ve taken our work experience intern Becci to the launch of a new drone. The Parrot Bebop is a lot of fun. Becci’s having a go at the VR goggles that put you in the passenger seat of this very user-friendly drone. Can you see it, by the way?

Might be investing in one of these fellas soon I reckon.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 6 Spectrum Now Festival

This evening, we’re in the Domain near Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens. The late summer festival Spectrum Now. This is the main entrance tunnel to the festival, which is lovely, and the food options are pretty good too, but it’s where Hendricks Gin have set up that’s the real show.

Hendricks have set up a kind of circus with a stall serving a special collaboration between them and Gelato Messina that’s worth trying.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 7 sydney skies

How about this sky? It’s the perfect Sunday sky, isn’t it? We’ve just spent a lovely morning at Milsons Point catching up with friends. We didn’t know it when we organised our catch-up, but there’s a kind of dog party going on there today called the Bradfield Bark. Lots of cute pooches around… and some weird looking ones too!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun? How’s your week ahead looking? Tell us in the comments!
