The best time to drink Champagne

Coco Chanel once said “I only drink champagne on two occasions: when I’m in love and when I’m not.” I love this quote, but when else is the best time to drink Champagne – and how do you do it?

When we first met, Mrs Romance and I had a little tradition whenever we shared a bottle of bubbly.

One of us would keep the metal cage – the muselet – and the other would keep the cork itself. The next time we’d see each other again, the person who didn’t have their component has to buy the next bottle.

With me living in England and her being in Australia, we had lots of these fun little things we’d do to celebrate being together.

These days it always seems to be my round 😉 so we keep only the corks from celebrations or our favourite moments instead. On the cork, we write the date of when we popped it and keep it somewhere safe.

Lanson Champagne - Tina Arena - Mr & Mrs Romance

We’ve got corks from all kinds of special times: birthdays, anniversaries, New Year’s Eve parties, general life wins… that’s exactly when you want to be drinking a beautiful bottle of Champagne.

Lanson – one of the oldest existing Champagne Houses – has been around for almost 260 years and knows what it means to mark a special occasion.

About Lanson

One of the oldest existing Champagne houses, the House of Lanson is a highly regarded, family-run estate and whose family has been crafting champagne since 1760.

Their master winemakers continue to use traditional methods and the Champagne the comes from the House of Lanson is – as you’d expect – predominantly a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape balance.

Their range of champagnes is so diverse, they’ve made sure there’s a bottle of Lanson for every occasion.

Lanson Champagne - Tina Arena - Mr & Mrs Romance

Lanson Rose Label NV Brut Rosé

As part of your prize, this pink Champagne is the perfect way to start an evening at Tina Arena’s Innocence to Understanding Tour. It has a delicate blush and fine, fresh flavours, but is complex and has a long-lasting taste.

This – one of the first rosé Champagnes – goes well with goat’s cheese, salmon or even a fresh, berry dessert.

Shop it: $65.99 from Dan Murphy’s

Lanson Black Label NV Brut

Straw and ambers colours give way to fine bubbles in this embodiment of Lanson non-vintage brut Champagne. Perfect as an aperitif, the Black Label NV is shares elegance of fresh flowers and honey aromas with rich ripe fruits and sharp citrus flavours.

Shop it: $49.99 from Dan Murphy’s

Lanson Gold Label Vintage 2005

A princely Champagne with a legacy of over 100 years of vintages, this really is a cut above most Champagnes. It has a robust yet sensitive palate of honey and gentle spiciness. On the nose, there’s plenty of ripe fruit – figs and apricots – and the silky full-bodied mouth feel gives way to exquisitely small bubbles. The word used with this Champagne is harmony.

Very drinkable on its own, but also pairs well with rich, opulent dishes like fresh truffle and spiced lobster gratin.

Shop it: $72.99 from Dan Murphy’s

My favourite reason at the moment would be being at an intimate pre-concert drinks party for Tina Arena with my wife what could be better? 🙂
(While that’s tongue in cheek Tina really is one of the best singer songwriters ever and, even better, seems like a beautiful person :))

I love a glass of champagne with a piece of cake! There is nothing better.

My favourite reason for celebrating with a glass of champagne is to celebrate the victories in our life. Whether it’s big or small, each victory is worth celebrating. It may be something small such as getting good feedback from work/manager to something like getting a bonus, all these victories matter.

The house is clean, the family are in bed by 7 and you can rug up on the couch with a glass of champagne and some bad reality TV!

I’m a 32 year old full time worker still trying to complete his phd (after 7 years!). Due to recent changes in policy, the University of Melbourne will terminate my candidature unless it is completed by Feb 2018. And so for me, the best time to drink champagne is when I am working on my thesis. As they say “A little bit goes a long way” and a glass or two of sparkling brut really helps to get the creative juices flowing!

Snuggled up with my love beside a crackling fire,
treasuring these moments that can truly inspire,
hand in hand we whisper and share a knowing glance,
the kids are with grandma this might be our only chance,
so we turn up Tina Arena’s tunes and cheer, celebrate and dance,
like no one is watching, we jump and jive and prance,
Romance? Sure, it would be nice, but it will have to keep,
‘cos the only thing we have in mind is we’ll finally get some sleep!
First though, we’ll crack open delicious Lanson Gold Champagne,
thankful for the brief time we get to spend like we’re childless again!

A bottle of bubbly, my husband and I,
It was the most romantic day of my life, the memory makes me cry.
Both happy and sad tears, he was the love of my life,
I’m ever so proud to have been his wife.
He’s since passed on, but yet he’s still here..
Each time I open a bottle of champagne, I can feel him near. ??

As Charles Dickens said, “Champagne is one of the elegant extras in life”. Thus, I must live a very elegant life! Drinking champagne goes hand in hand with special occasions such as births, weddings and graduations. All very momentous occasions in one’s life that makes us exuberate happiness. But for me the best reason for drinking the most spectacular drink in the world is the beautiful every day moments in life. A gorgeous Sunday picnic or waiting at the airport! Spending these small moments drinking champagne brings me so much happiness, to what would otherwise be very ordinary!

Champagne with Tina Arena is the best way to break those chains of everyday life! As Oscar Wilde said “Only the unimaginative can fail to find a reason to drink champagne!” so I follow his sage advice and toast to all life’s moments.
If I won this incredible prize, I would share this momentous evening with my bestie as we are Tina’s biggest fans!

I associate Champagne with my friends. We’ve celebrated our highs, and lifted our lows, with bubbly. We are all time poor, so when we finally do get together, sharing a bottle of Champagne makes the occasion even more special.

“Pop” and we are off on the first glass of Lanson Champagne. The first sip is sparkly and fizzy! We are celebrating Christmas so we “ching ching” our glasses together. The best time to enjoy a glass of Lanson is at our Christmas Champagne Breakfast. We errupt into giggles at our enthusiasm for celebrating the festive season and turn up the music of Tina Arena’s Christmas album: The Things We Do EP. Champagne makes us happy. Champagne makes us laugh. Lanson Champagne is a tool we use to enhance our celebrations at Christmas. Tina Arena’s Christmas album sets a wonderful mood. Dad loves her music. Tina is one of the finest singers he says.

Meeting my hubby for the first time 10 years ago,
Feeling my heartbeat “pop” like crazy,
Seeing the sparkle in his eyes,
The feeling of warmth and effervescence afterwards.

    Everyday is worth toasting to,
Like champagne, love lingers beautiful long after a first sip.
Coco Chanel has definitely got it right – more so if we were enjoying it at a Tina Arena concert!
