Mrs Romance starts the week off with a morning run down by the Harbour.
The best thing about the Sydney winter is the clear sky, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I’ve seen more sunrises this week than ever thanks to the early World Cup games! I don’t really know why but I feel compelled to get up for as many matches as possible.
The hardest part of getting up so early is I’ve found I’ve needed to be in bed earlier – reminds me of my nan!
The chilly weather has put me in the mood for laksa. Where better to get my Malay chilli hit that the Hunter Street Malay Chinese Restaurant? This beef laksa hits the spot but leaves me so full of coconut soupy goodness I struggle through the rest of the day and get very little work done.
But it was so worth it!
Tonight Mrs Romance and I meet up with the most excellent Tammi Ireland from Park Avenue PR. We head to the Hilton Sydney’s rooftop bar – Zeta. It’s cigar friendly with a view of the Queen Victoria Building that’s to die for. Tammi and I indulge in a couple of Partagas cigars.
We go for a bottle of malbec and Tammi orders an amazing-looking smoked Old Fashioned and we spend the evening putting the world to rights.
Mrs Romance’s review of Shuk Bondi is up on site today. It’s an Israeli cafe, bakery and marketplace. This hummus dish looks amazing – I can’t wait to go there and eat all the food! Anyway, here’s Mrs Romance’s review of Shuk.
Mrs Romance makes my favourites today: peanut butter choc chip cookies! They’re not exactly what you’d call healthy, but they make me happy – so where’s the harm in that? They’re also gluten free, and Mrs R insists they’re simple to make, so everyone seems to win with this one!
Keep an eye open for the recipe for these delicious crumbly rounds of heaven – we’ll be publishing it pretty soon.
I’m absolutely thrilled to have my guest post published on Smaggle.com today. It’s about 3 things to do if you get a bad nickname – and yes, I really do have a friend called Penis!
It’s Friday at last! And for Friday Drinks this week is this amazing chilli mojito. We were given this recipe by the lovely Kiera behind the bar of Spicers Tamarind Retreat in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. It’s a brilliant drink made from chilli-infused vodka.
Last night was a friend’s bucks night. I wasn’t planning on drinking that much – but of course, I did! It’s been a long way back to normality today. My two new best friends, Berocca and codeine have helped me get through the worst of it, but Mrs Romance has been an excellent nurse too.
She’s made me a delicious pea, bacon and broccoli risotto and let me watch all three of the Star Wars movies without complaining or making fun! What a woman I’ve got, ay?
How was your week? Have you been watching the World Cup? Did you find yourself in need of any pain relief from a spot of ‘Cocktail Flu’? Tell us in the comments!
Sonia from Sonia Styling
We managed to eat and drink our way up our local neighbourhood from Thursday to Sunday – it was awesome! As for Cocktail Flu, prevention is most often better than cure. I’m not talking about not drinking: that’s madness! I just mean a couple of headache tablets and a bucket of water before bed. Sleep. Breakfast (my fave is a ham, cheese and tomato croissant and a coffee). Lunch (chicken burger, chips and coke). Dinner and back on the bandwagon!
Mr Romance
Awesome stuff, Sonia! For starters, your Thurs-Sun expedition sounds so good I’ve turned back to that weird green colour I’d established on Sunday morning – but this time it’s from envy!
I totally agree with your prevention tactics – though if I’m going to have a hangover (I’m blessed with a high hangover threshold), I’m not in any state to think about taking preventative measures! However, I’ve heard downing a couple of naprogesic PMS tablets before you head down the boozer not only prevents the cocktail flu, it even increases your capacity during the evening! I’ve yet to try this as I am one of the world’s less organised drinkers!
Your coping mechanisms are brilliant too. I can feel you recovering as I read through your meal strategy too! And anyway, who doesn’t love a good chicken burger?!
