So this is it. (Probably) our last Instagram Diary for the year! I’m heading back to the UK for 3 weeks leaving poor Mrs Romance alone with that awful Australian summer. I hope she’ll be able to deal with those endless days of hot sun, long days and some of the best excuses for a cold cocktail you’ll ever find.
Meanwhile, I’ll be lapping up the beautiful cloudy climes of an English winter with all the hydrating refreshment of countless days of rain. Sounds perfect.
Anyway, we hope you enjoy our last IG Diary of 2015. We’ll still be telling our story on our favourite social media platform over the Christmas period – though Mrs Romance will be taking charge of the reins for most of the time. The time difference is just way too confusing for my basic brain.
Have a lovely Christmas and a wonderful new year.
By the way, be sure to keep your eye open for one more post we’ve got coming up before Christmas. It’s set to be a whopper!
This morning’s weather is looking set for a very steamy day. There’s talk of a storm as well… but let’s wait and see.
Ok. Wasn’t expecting this. Mrs Romance has managed to capture a couple of amazing moments in this time lapse video of the storm coming in from the south and covering the city. You can see the boats all stop just before one of the really big squalls comes in. Love it!
Further away in the south, winds have picked up to cyclone levels. In fact wind speeds will reach the highest ever recorded in the state. Quite scary really. I think the city’s lucky to have escaped with a bit of rain and hail.
I can’t believe this is the same day! This peaceful, beautiful scene of the harbour as dusk falls and night begins tells nothing of the raging storm of the morning.
Mrs Romance has once again shown her talents with the time lapse video.
We’re trying a new gin today, and we’re very impressed. Stone Pine, which is a tiny distillery near Bathurst, NSW already has a really good gin in their armoury but distiller and owner Ian Glen has tinkered with the recipe to produce this seasonal limited release gin.
He’s added orange blossoms to the mix, which has really done amazing things to the flavour and aroma. We thought we’d give this gin the toughest test we know and have made a very dry gin martini with it.
Here’s our review and recipe of the orange blossom gin martini.
Today is Mrs Romance’s birthday! It’s good news all round actually, because it means we’ve gone out for dumplings at yum cha.
We’ve decided to give the Sydney Fishmarket’s yum cha restaurant – Fisherman’s Wharf Seafood Restaurant – a go this time. We’ve got some other favourites we’ve talked about before in our Best Sydney Yum Cha post, but this is pretty good, I must say.
They also validate your parking ticket for 2 hours free parking, which saved us about $30. Nice tip there, I think!
The birthday fun continues this evening. Mrs Romance and I have come to Sushi E in the city for dinner. This place really is special. If you like jazzed up Japanese food, you’ll love this place. The flavours they create with the food and the skills the chefs show with the sashimi are very impressive.
It’s an amazing dinner and we’re both very pleased with the meal. Happy birthday, Mrs Romance! X
Mrs Romance’s birthday hasn’t ended yet though. We’re staying in Establishment Hotel tonight.
I think she’s pretty happy with things – what do you think?!
And still the birthday happiness continues! We’re on a ferry this morning (thankfully we took it easy last night – no seasickness here, thank you very much!) and it’s the best way to end a birthday celebration. What a lovely way to see the city.
And still the party continues! Mrs Romance has met up with one of her besties at Wilhemina’s in Balmain for a couple of late brunch cocktails. Meanwhile, yours truly slaves over a hot stove at home. I head to the UK tomorrow, so I’m doing a bit of batch cooking to make sure Mrs Romance doesn’t starve… or burn the house down. Just kidding. Kind of!
And this is it. Our last meal together for 2015. How strange that feels to say that. It’s a good one though. We’ve popped to Euforia in Balmain for a delicious brekkie with an impressive view. The Harbour Bridge looks ok as well, I suppose!
We hope you’ve enjoyed our Instagram Diaries this year. We’ve certainly enjoyed creating them for you and we’re really looking forward to doing it all again next year!
What are your plans for Christmas this year? Are you going out for NYE or hiding away like I prefer to do?! Tell us in the comments!
Maureen
You two seem like the happiest couple ever. Everyone wants to be like you. 🙂
That orange blossom gin has made me thirsty. Have a wonderful Christmas on either side of the world!

Thanks Maureen! It’s not always perfect but after 15 years, I think we’ve found a way to always make each other laugh 😉 Hope you have a beautiful Christmas too! xx
