OK, so hands up who’s ready for Christmas. No one? No, me neither. But then I rarely am. Mostly this is because Mrs Romance’s birthday falls exactly a week before Christmas Day… well, that’s what I blame it on!
Mrs Romance has had to deal with having her birthday so close to Christmas her whole life… obviously. So she’s come up with some great ways of making Christmas birthdays more special – check them out here.
One of Mrs R’s tips is to just move your birthday, which she often does. But this year, we decided to celebrate her birthday on the day, and it was absolutely awesome. If nothing else, make sure you check out some of the photos from Mrs R’s big day.
We hope you enjoy this week’s IG Edition and that the last run-up to Christmas doesn’t crush your brain too much!

Good old Sydney and her weird weather. This week we’ve had everything from the hottest night in the last 35 years to gale-force winds that have pulled over trees and rain that’s lasted two whole days.
I think this photo sums things up nicely: is that the sun poking through or a rolling cloud of rain and thunder? Is it a clear sky or is the distant rain coming this way?
And then you realise you’re having a party outside at the weekend and you stop asking questions!
Mrs Romance’s birthday has finally arrived!! We’re at a little cafe in Balmain called Kafeine. It’s incredibly popular – especially on Sundays, but we’ve managed to score the perfect table at the window.
Mrs Romance is refusing to make decisions on her birthday and has smartly ordered the plate of everything! The food here is so good though you don’t have to worry about getting food envy.
Let the good times roll! Happy birthday, Mrs Romance – this is the way to celebrate!
It’s a bit chilly out today, but we’ve persevered. Perhaps it’s my wig and headband, but I’m not actually cold at all!
This is such a great party with so many great friends, Mrs R is having the time of her life!
Oh and if you’re wondering, yes, it’s fancy dress. And if you weren’t wondering, thanks for your faith in our fashion sense! Here are some highlights from the party:
The Aussie ’80s theme of the party summed up here beautifully with me springing from a can of Fosters!
Our mate Kathleen of Nip of Courage and Aussie Tipple Company fame really working that fur stole while I’m working the sausage sizzle.
What a great party. I don’t think Mrs Romance is going to forget this one. I know I won’t.

This week’s Travel Recap
Each week we go back in time over some of our favourite travel destinations using never-before-seen photos of our travels. Here’s where we’ve been looking back on this week.
The coastline around the southern edge of Victoria is stunning. Absolutely stunning. This is Aireys Inlet – about an hour and a half’s drive southwest of Melbourne.
You have to watch the tides though; you can get caught on the beach so easily. Hope those people down there are paying attention!
Cheers! An afternoon Aperol spritz at Wilhelmina’s in Balmain, Sydney is always a good idea. This little bar does awesome cocktails and its food is beautiful too. Definitely a recommendation for anyone visiting Sydney – and if you’re local, I hope you’ve already been here!
These guys are also open for brunch now, so makes sure you check out their new daytime menu.
The big wheel at Luna Park – Sydney’s oldest running amusement park – has some of the best views out over the harbour, the Bridge and the Opera House you can get. It’s fun to do in the day, but they also run dinners here at night during the summer.
We did this last summer and it was absolutely brilliant. You have to book, but if you’re looking for something completely different to do for a summer date night or for a special romantic dinner, this would be hard to beat.
Here’s our review of our Ferris wheel dining experience to give you a bit more info.
Did you think this was Manhattan Island at first glance? I did when Mrs Romance first showed me this photo. It’s such an unusual angle of Sydney! It really does look like New York City from the Hudson River… though the Hudson’s a bit browner than this!
Talking of which, if you’re heading to NYC anytime soon and want to see the Big Apple from a completely different angle, check out our sailing cruise around the river here. It’s an amazing thing to do.
Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland, Australia has been voted the world’s most beautiful beach so many times… but it’s not until you actually see it with your own eyes that you realise it’s not just hype and Photoshop skills.
It really is this lovely.
Here’s to a beautiful Christmas wherever you are. We’ll still be publishing our IG Editions over the Christmas break, but we’ve got just one more post for you coming up this week (it’s a big one though). And then we’ll be back to normal in the new year.
We hope you’ve enjoyed following our adventures of 2016 – there have been quite a few! We’ll be getting a bit of beach time over Christmas, so make sure you keep an eye on our Instagram feed. We’ve got some beautiful seaside stuff planned.
In the meantime, have a lovely Christmas!
