A new rosé, a new bar and a Valentine’s weekend

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 1 title

Hi! Welcome to our latest Instagram Diary. This week has been pretty awesome for us here at Romance HQ. We were introduced to a brand new rosé wine, Mrs Romance went to check out the 2016 March into Merivale launch and we went to test out the food and cocktails at Sydney City’s latest small bar.

It was also Valentine’s Day at the weekend, so as you’d expect from Mr & Mrs Romance, we enjoyed the excuse to spoil each other a little bit. The good news is if you didn’t get a chance to spoil your special someone this Valentine’s Day, there’s still time. Our V Day ideas will still bring a smile to your lover’s face even if it is late.

So let’s get into it: here’s what we’ve been up to on Instagram.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 2 Sydney sunrise

Mrs Romance has managed to start the week off early again with this beauty of a sunrise pic over the city. Looks like it’s going to be a good week ahead!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 3 Aura rose

We’re at the rooftop bar the Old Clare Hotel in Chippendale tonight. What an amazing venue! If you haven’t been to the Old Clare since its renovations, you’ve got to check it out.

We’re here to celebrate the launch of Philip’s Frolic’s new rosé – the Aura. It’s very much in the style of the southern French Provençal rosé, and even uses the particular grape variety (Pinot Meunier), which makes this rosé even more authentically French. It’s dry and crisp with plenty of flavour. But as you know, we’re big fans of rosé anyway!

But if you’re looking for a new rosé and you want to still drink Australian wine, you should check this one out. It’s certainly got our attention.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 4 March into Merivale

Mrs Romance is out in Ivy tonight to see how the launch of this year’s March into Merivale is going. Every year, the various venues that make up the Merivale group of restaurants, bars and hotels. The city laneways are full of people enjoying the festival atmosphere.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 5 March into Merivale Ivy pool bar

Mrs Romance has moved up to the Pool Bar in Ivy, where the the summer’s really getting the party going. Love those inflatable ice creams by the way!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 6 Sydney Harbour

Mrs Romance is out exercising on the harbour again this morning. She loves getting a shot of the early morning sun on the Opera House… almost like she’s trying to create evidence that she really did get up that early!

You can’t deny it’s an amazing view either way.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 8 my office today

I’ve tried to parry Mrs Romance’s morning views with one of my own today. I’ve set up the office on the waterfront this afternoon. Got everything I need, I think: laptop – tick. Big cup of tea – tick. Just need to clean my computer screen and I’ll be set!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 9 Easy Eight cocktails

This evening, we’re out in the city trying out the newest bar to open up. The Easy Eight is tucked away in the heart of the of the CBD. And although it’s hidden from plain sight, it’s in some very good company.

Right next to entrances to 2 of Sydney’s best bars – Baxter Inn and the Barbershop – The Easy Eight is set to make this little courtyard the place to be. But with Baxters being whisky central and the Barbershop focusing on gin, the drinks and cocktail element of this trifecta are full.

That’s why Easy Eight has focused on its food, with chefs from some of the best restaurants in town cooking up the dishes of this little soul and motown bar, which has taken on a kind of updated ’50s American diner look, even though it’s only been open a few weeks.

The cocktails we’ve got to get dinner started are excellent. My popcorn old fashioned and Mrs Romance’s ‘Verve’ are novel drinks and go perfectly with the housemade pork crackles (or pork scratchings as we call them in the UK). I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of Easy Eight!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 10 Valentine's weekend

How about this for a good start to Valentine’s Day? Another great shot by Mrs Romance!

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 11 cheers to Valentine's Day

And here it is! Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you’ve had the best day – it’s such a good excuse to treat your love to something special. We’re enjoying a little glass of champers today, but there are lots of other ways to make your other half feel special.

This week we’ve shared a couple of different ideas – but remember they’ll still totally work any time you’re feeling like spoiling the one you love:

Our top choc ideas for Valentine’s Day.

Easy Valentine’s Day romantic meal planner.

Mr & Mrs Romance - Insta Diary - 50 Land Rover?

Our parting message this week has nothing at all to do with anything – especially not Valentine’s Day. My Instagram alter ego @AngryBastard spotted this boat on the harbour. Very silly thing to have written on a sea-going vessel, don’t you think?

Anyway, how was your week? What did you get up to on Valentine’s Day? Tell us in the comments!
