It’s the first day of June. It marks the first official day of winter here in Australia. Right on cue, there’s a big drop of snow in the mountains south of Sydney and now… well, now it’s bloody freezing!
Still, the views from Mrs Macquarie’s Chair on Sydney Harbour are still spectacular. We just have to wrap up a bit to look at them now!
Mrs Romance has found this beauty on her wanderings around the Botanic Gardens. Isn’t this the most amazing tree?
Now we’re finally in June, it’s just starting to dawn on us how close we are to the latest Little Blog Big in Adelaide now. Can’t wait to get in amongst the vineyards of some of Australia’s best wineries.
Little Blog Big – a day seminar Mrs Romance and Carly from Smaggle.com – is all about growing your blog, its readership and your social media presence. Here’s some more information on Little Blog Big via their website.
If you haven’t got your ticket to Little Blog Big Adelaide yet, hurry up! The ticket checkout’s just here.
The previous workshops were good but I’ve got a feeling this one’s going to be the best yet.
It’s freezing today, but it’s still a good, clear day for a walk along the coast to Bondi Beach. Not too sure about this fella though. Rock fishing in an abattoir coat is never a good idea. But when it’s this cold, a comfy seat in a cafe enjoying a nice caramel slice or something would be much better.
We’ve got a little lodger living with us for the next few days. This is Kismet, and she’s busy helping Mrs Romance with her blog Hair Romance. Not sure if her styling skills are up to it just yet, but I’ve heard her mouse work is most admirable.
And here she is again. Little sweetheart, isn’t she?
Tonight, we’re out with our mate Steph from Lipstick and Cake. We’ve decided to try (the now closed) Barrio Chino – see the other venue Barrio Cellar in the city for similar menus. It’s been on my list to visit for quite some time. It’s a Mexican restaurant but it’s the burger here I’m most interested in.
Of course we’ve had to order a few other bits and pieces too. The guac and chips that comes with your drinks order is excellent and reminds of the States. The tacos are superb and the ceviche isn’t bad either. But this burger.
It’s billed as a Mexican torta, which I can see, but in burger terms, it’s well and truly up there. In fact I think I might need to amend my top 10 list of burgers.
This morning, Mrs Romance and I have gone for our favourite stroll around the Botanic Gardens and Harbour foreshore. On the way home, we’ve stopped in at the Art Gallery of NSW.
There’s a photography exhibition on here at the moment but first we’re having a look at some of the Australian classics they have here. This is Sidney Nolan’s First Class Marksman and is one of the depictions of famous bush ranger Ned Kelly that Nolan is most famous for.
As for the photographic gallery, I’m not sure if it’s worth the $15 entry fee to be honest.
If it’s choice between a burger and a salad, I’m sorry, but the salad’s never going to do very well out of that contest. This salad, however, would have to be one of the stronger contenders.
It’s from the sneak preview of what The Plant Gallery will be serving when they open next month. I can’t wait. The food is magnificent – real works of art – and it’s also raw vegan. Check out their site for more info here.
Mrs Romance has somehow managed to get up early this morning in spite of it being the long weekend – the best reason for a lie-in there is! Thanks to Queen Elizabeth II, we get the 2nd Monday of June off each year.
Mrs R’s got a great angle of the Opera House this morning.
We’re quite pleased with ourselves today. We’ve spent the first part of the Monday of our long weekend working on this: our first panoramic Instagram pic.
Over the last few years – since iPhone introduced this feature – I’ve taken quite a few panoramic shots on my phone. We haven’t really known what to do with them – and it seems such a waste when shots like this one in St Tropez come out so well.
So every now and then you’ll see us posting shots like this on our IG feed. They look good individually, but when you look at our Insta thumbnail profile, you get the whole scene in all its glory.
If you want to see more pics of our time in the Côte d’Azure, check out Mrs Romance’s post Postcards from St Tropez & 5 things you must do. The photos are sublime and the tips are excellent.
I’ve discovered this little nugget of OHS in the office. Not only are there some excellent ideas for preventing DVT whilst sat at your desk or stood in front of the photocopier, I now know what kind of pantaloons I should be wearing about the place! Superb!
Well, we hope you’ve had a great week and – if you’re anywhere in Australia other than WA – a great long weekend. Tell us, what have you been up to?

“Knotch”? I think I mean notch. Terrible!
Mr Romance
Lol! It’s a very silent ‘k’ of course!

Why thank you kindly, Sonia! Quite pleased with that myself. Some very interesting editing on that one – using good ol’ Snapseed of course! Really looking forward to hanging with you guys in Rads!

That tree is amazing and yes, give me caramel slice in a warm cafe over freezing my butt off! Waiting for Little Blog Big to come to the GC – hint hint nudge nudge 🙂
Mr Romance
Hey Malinda. Glad to hear it’s not just Sydney that’s freezing at the moment! As for Little Blog Big Gold Coast – it’s certainly got a ring to it. You never know! I’ll have to talk to the big boss ladies!
