The view of the Harbour City from this angle could never get boring, could it? And after all the rain, we’re looking forward to a considerably drier Sydney – at least for a little while.
It’s been a busy week here at Romance HQ – though things aren’t looking like quietening down. Watch our feed this week. We’ve got some very cool things coming up indeed!
Anyway, here’s our week through the square window!
We’re really excited tonight. We’re at our friend Dave’s house getting a sneak preview of his restaurant’s food – a great way to end a Sunday. Dave and his business partner/chef Tota are about to open The Plant Gallery.
The Plant Gallery will be serving raw vegan food with a real difference. This is their tiramisu and it’s bloody delicious. Check out their Facebook page for more details on what they do.
Yes, it’s Monday night, but this is important. I’m in the Royal Albert to sample two new brews they’re serving here. Holgate Brewhouse have made a new IPA – the Millenium Falcon, and Feral Brewing have created a very powerful dark beer called Dark Boris. They’re using casks that once held Crazy Uncle moonshine. The result is pretty mind-bending!
I’m lucky enough to be sampling these delicious wares with our awesome friend Kathleen from Nip of Courage – the distributor of Crazy Uncle and Dead Man’s Drop to name just 2 amazing Aussie craft spirits.
So happy to see the sun properly again. It’s been such a gloomy past couple of weeks. Sydney looks so much better with blue skies behind her. Let’s hope this is the start of things to come.
Mrs Romance and I are out in Glebe this afternoon visiting our friend and her hairdresser Stevie of Stevie English Hair. We asked him where to go for lunch nearby and he told us about a little Japanese place. We’ve ended up in the wrong one, but I’m still happy with my lunch.
This gyoza ramen from Sushi Garden is very tasty and amazing value at only $9!
This morning, Mrs Romance and I have come to Bondi to spend a bit of time at the beach and grab a bite at Porch and Parlour in North Bondi.
We love being at the beach in winter. There are far fewer people and there’s much less expectation to be seen in your swimming costume!
Anyway, my breakfast at Porch and Parlour is incredible. Paprika chilli poached eggs with fried potato, crisp chorizo, rocket and black bean salsa with sourdough and half an avocado. And really good coffee too. It’s reminded us why we recommended coming here in our 24 hours in Sydney post this week.
Iceburgs at the south end of Bondi Beach is always incredibly photogenic, but when the sky’s this blue and the pool’s this empty, it’s even lovelier.
Talking of lovely, here’s Mrs Romance! She’s enjoying the interactive street art on the wall at Bondi. These wings by Kelsey Motague are so cool. Her other stuff is great too. Check it out on Instagram.
After our time in Bondi, we head back into town to the Verona cinema to catch a movie. The best thing about the Verona – and all the Palace cinemas in fact – is that you can buy a drink at the bar and take it with you into the movie. Also, you’re supporting local business of course.
We’re taking our spritz Aperol to check out While We’re Young – a Ben Stiller movie. It’s not bad but probably not one I’d want to watch again.
This morning we’re back at Bondi! Maybe we should just move here and save on the travel.
Anyway, today we’re in Harry’s Bondi to try their new menu featuring this signature dish – crispy rolled egg, on black beans coriander and chorizo. We’re trying a few other dishes this morning to check out the extension they’ve finally opened on the original espresso bar that’s been here for years, but I think this is a winner in my books.
Watch this space for a bit more info on what’s going on here at Harry’s.
Mrs Romance received this today. It’s one of 9 marshmallows with photos on them! It’s a lovely gift from our friends at Schwarzkopf and we love the idea. They’re by a company called Boomf – multi-sensory magical marshmallows!
You can have any photos you like printed on 9 individual marshmallows or you can have one big photo set out as a jigsaw. Best of all, they ship anywhere in the world for free!
Tonight Mrs Romance and I are out with 4 of the coolest people we know: Stevie and Mel from Stevie English Hair, and Paul and Ewelina from ReFoil.
What’s started out as an innocent cocktail or two then a curry has ended up a cigar-filled drinking session. Lucky I’ve brought these bad boys with me, isn’t it?!

Today is Mother’s Day here in Australia. So here’s to my mum – even though she’s back in the UK. She’s an incredible lady and I love her dearly – she’s the one on the left by the way.
I think the thing that strikes me in this photo is just how big the bowl of food is I’m eating. It’s literally bigger than my torso. I suppose it just proves the point that things don’t really change, do they?
How was your week? Did you get up to anything exciting? What did you do for Mother’s Day? Tell us in the comments!
Sammie @ The Annoyed Thyroid
That Tiramisu looks amazing, as does everything I’ve seen from the Plant Gallery. Australian Mother’s Day always confuses us and our UK mothers but we got into the spirit of the day, with an 8km run around the city in the Mother’s Day Classic. It’s always so much fun!
Mr Romance
I can’t wait for you to try some of The Plant Gallery’s food, Sammie. It’s so good.
I know exactly what you mean with Mother’s Day. I used to play the whole no it’s not Mother’s Day here card all the time when I first moved here – and to be honest, Mum didn’t really care about it then – but as we’ve both got older, I think we pay more attention to it. I know she likes it anyway.
Nice one for going for a run. I stayed on the sofa as much as humanly possible on Sunday! Mrs R’s mum’s away at the minute.

Kat - The Organised Housewife
Ooh looks like you had a beautiful Mothers day! With stunning weather, food and scenery.:)
Mr Romance
We did have a lovely Mother’s Day, Kat, but the only scenery we took in was from our sofa. The rest of the week was so busy we decided to take it easy. Plus Mrs R’s mum was away for Mother’s Day for the first time ever, so we had no obligations this time. We’ll take her out for a meal or something when she’s back though. 🙂

Sonia from Sonia Styling
Those wings are awesome… but not as awesome as the lovely lady standing in front of them! We had a great weekend. I got lots of work done, we caught up with friends and had a lovely lunch with family yesterday. Gearing up for a big few days in your hometown! x
Mr Romance
Those wings are cool, aren’t they, Sonia? But like you said not a touch on the angle in the middle of them. Sounds like you had yet another cracker of a weekend. You guys certainly do it right.
Yes, can’t wait for this week. It’s going to be awesome! See you soon!
