Sculpture by the Sea Bondi 2013

It’s hard to imagine Sydney’s coastline getting any more spectacular.

For 11 months of the year, the coastal walk from Bronte to Bondi is the run-of-the-mill incredible. Endless horizons of outlooks over the Pacific and some of the most famous, beautiful beaches in the world.

And David Handley’s brain child takes over. From the northern edge of Bronte Beach – covering the sands of Tamarama – the sculptures begin. This year’s installations are by 106 different artists and collaborations from 15 different countries. Here’s the whole list of exhibiting artists.

There are some brilliant pieces of work here – this one – ‘Red Centre’ – is mesmerising. Tamarama Beach and park has some other great interactive pieces to see.

There are some other incredible sculptures along the coastline. This giant glass globe full of water literally turns the world on its head.

The walk isn’t too tough – though it gets very busy during the weekends. You need to watch out for runners too. It’s still a very popular route to exercise along, in spite of the huge increase in foot traffic.

Here are some more pieces we liked along the way to Bondi.

It’s only the start of summer so Bondi Beach is relatively quiet.

This walk is a real highlight of Sydney life. Like many locals and tourists alike – we head here every year. Make sure you do the same!

Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2013 goes from 24th October to 10th November. There are two other venues that happen at different times of the year; one in Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia and another in Aarhus, Denmark.
