Styling You mocha espresso martini cocktail recipe

Far be it for us to pigeonhole people, Mrs Romance and I have decided to name a few cocktails we’ve made recently after some of our close blogging friends.

When we first started thinking of what cocktail would suit Nikki from Styling You, we went straight for a pineapple-based beverage. Nikki is bananas about pineapples! She’s got everything from pineapple earrings to lamp in the shape of the tropical fruit!

But then she mentioned how much she likes Mr Black.

Now, this isn’t something Mr Styling You should be worried about. Mr Black is an incredible coffee liqueur, new on the Australian craft alcohol scene. And it’s bloody delicious!

Mr Black is made with real cold filter coffee, so the flavour is amazingly intense. Cold filter coffee is different to regular coffee as the coffee grounds are steeped in chilled water to leach the flavour out. It means the result is sweeter and smoother than coffee brewed in hot water.

With this in mind, the idea of the Styling You Mocha Espresso Martini started to take form. It’s sweet, elegant and sophisticated – just like our Nik! It’s also got a real kick to it, and the caffeine content gets you back on your feet and in the mood to party!

  • 1 ½ measures of Mr Black cold filter coffee liqueur
  • 1 measure of white crème de cacao
  • ½ measure of good quality vodka – we used Crystal Head vodka.
  • Coffee bean to garnish

Here’s what you do:

  1. Pour the ingredients over ice into a cocktail shaker.
  2. Shake well and strain into a martini glass.
  3. Float a coffee bean on the surface to garnish.
  4. Enjoy!

The crème de cacao adds a lovely sweet chocolaty taste to the drink, but you don’t have to add it. Alternatively you could add other flavoured liqueurs if you wanted – such as Chambord, or Grand Marnier.

The guys at Mr Black also say you can use other white spirits instead of vodka. Try gin, tequila or even rum.

Mr Black is made by an independent distiller in Sydney’s Central Coast. You can buy this brilliant handmade spirit direct from the Mr Black website here or from Dan Murphy’s here  and number of other leading retailers.

Please! Even when asking forcibly for a cocktail you’re still so polite, Sonia! 😉 You’re on though. Just have to find some way of getting them to you. Perhaps a visit to SA should be looked at…

  • Oh this is Nikki to a tee – chic, sophisticated with just a hint of sass and kick. Love it! Well played, Mr + Mrs R.x

  • Hehe that is such a cool idea! And I didn’t know that Nikki loved pineapples that much or Mr Black. Just goes to show that cocktails can tell you a lot about a person! 😉

Ha ha! That’s right, Lorraine! They’re like fun, boozy crystal balls! Nikki’s absolutely mad for pineapples. They’re everywhere at her place!
