The area has really got back on its feet, Vanessa. You can still see the scars, and it’ll probably never be the same again, but Marysville and its people are real fighters and have done a great job recovering. It’s so sad to hear about your friend’s dad. Must have been so horrible. As I said in the post, we really weren’t sure what to expect but when we got there, it felt right to enjoy our time in such a lovely place and yet balance it with a bit of contemplation for everything that’s happened there.
Definitely worth you going back. It’ll bring back a lot of memories by the sounds – some good, some bad – but I’ll bet you’ll get a lot out of it.
Oh, and that drive: absolutely awesome!

It’s so beautiful there, Sonia. You’d absolutely love it. The trees are amazing. Funny thing: we very very nearly missed our flight because – being professional bloggers – we left the camera at home. Mrs R trooped back into town to get it and got back to the airport in the nick of time. Otherwise all these pics would’ve been iPhone shots!

We are huge fans of neighbouring Healesville but haven’t been back to Marysville post Black Sunday. A friend lost his Dad in the fires there that day and I felt sad about returning to a place that I once visited and enjoyed so much. We spent an awesome Easter there with a big group of friends before kids and loved visiting for the day as well.

This post though is what I needed to see and read. We live only an hour or so away and really should be getting back there again – if not only for the incredible drive through the Black Spur.
