We start the week off with a visit to a gallery exhibition.
Lexi of Potty Mouth Mama fame has invited us to see her husband Matthew Kentmann’s collection of paintings.
Matthew’s drawn his inspiration from the Australian coastline. Beautiful works. We like this one the most.
There’s something quite spiritual about the collection. It reminds us of Jonathan Livingston Seagull – a book I loved as a kid.
We very much enjoyed our meal at Mr Moustache the other day. It’s a cool Mexican cantina with great food and delicious cocktails. It also has a huge selection of mezcal, a Mexican spirit.
Here’s our review of Mr Moustache.
Mrs Romance is at the Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week this week. It’s a busy time for her but she gets to go to some cool places. One show today is at Bondi Icebergs.
Bondi is seeing a lot of us today – we’re at Bondi Hardware celebrating the restaurant’s 2nd birthday. It’s a great party with some good cocktails and finger food. We’re happy to bump into Bob from Jugernauts too. Always a pleasure to catch up with him.
Mrs Romance is backstage at Fashion Week again today. I love seeing what goes on behind the scenes. Looks like mayhem but somehow it all works!
Mrs R sneaks in a lunch at Three Williams today. Meanwhile I’m at home eating dubious leftovers. Doesn’t seem fair, does it?
The daunting spectacle that is the photographers’ pit. They’re crammed into a tiny space at the end of the fashion runway. The times Mrs R has been squeezed in there she always comes back with horror stories.
It seems like a lifetime ago that we were roaming the busy streets and bobbing along the elegant canals of Venice. Such an amazing city. We enjoyed writing this post on how to use the vaporetto system in Venice for a couple of reasons. Venice’s public ferry service is very handy, but it’s also quite complicated so hopefully we’re helping people with this piece.
We also just enjoyed looking through and posting pictures of one of the world’s most romantic cities.
One of the last shows of this year’s Mercedes Australian Fashion Week and it looks like a belter. They actually made it snow on the runway!
Mrs Romance and I head to The Rocks to catch up with Steph from Lipstick and Cake and Cheri from Ms Critique today. We haven’t seen these guys in ages so it’s a good long lunch. Thankfully we’re somewhere that does a good burger!
Pony Lounge & Dining does a very satisfactory Blackmores cheeseburger and stringcut fries. It’s a funny little place though and the toilets are at the back of the shopping centre that the restaurant’s in. But service is great and the menu makes me want to come back again.
For dessert at Pony Mrs Romance dives into her Frangelico affogato, which looks perfect. I try the apple crumble with salted caramel and macadamia. It’s good but the base is a burnt. Shame really, but the rest of it still tastes very good. Steph and Cheri share a chocolate and coconut bounty, which also looks sensational.
Friday at last! It feels like this has been a very long week, so to celebrate, we share three great champagne cocktails – the Champagne Bitters, the Hibiscus Cocktail and the Champino. All great and all quite simple too. Cheers!
It’s finally pub o’ clock! I head to my favourite spot – The Royal Albert Hotel with a couple of mates, while Mrs R pops over to Balmain to meet up with some friends too.
I arrive a bit later – it’s great to see Kimba again – haven’t seen her for an age – and it’s an absolute pleasure to finally meet Sonia, who’s up from Adelaide for the weekend for Kidspot Voices of 2014 Masterclass. (I pinched this pic from Kimba’s feed by the way).
Mrs Romance is pretty chuffed with her new top. She’s decided to rock it at this year’s Kidspot Masterclass awards.
While Mrs R is out and about in new her witty top, I’m at my mate Pete’s birthday party. This is actually St Peter one of our Wine Saints! Happy birthday, Peter.
It’s a grim rainy day today. Mrs Romance must have invested in a crystal ball because it’s if she can see into my soul. This cheese, tomato and avocado roll is exactly what I want.
Gelato Messina have produced this work of genius – it’s an exact replica of the cake from the movie Grand Budapest Hotel. Absolutely delicious, it’s layers of ice cream filled profiteroles. Brilliant. Thank you so much, Tania & Jayde from Cake Service. It’s the perfect end to the week!
What did you get up to last week? Any good news? Sonia, I’m looking at you!
