What to wear to ProBlogger 2014 – men’s edition

Title

Just last week, Mrs Romance asked me what I’m going to wear to Pro Blogger this year.

My response:  “Uh?

I hadn’t really thought about it. Unlike Mrs Romance, who’s been fretting about it for quite some time.

While I’m not particularly stressed about my wardrobe, I thought I’d put my thoughts down on what we gents could or should be sporting at this year’s blogging festivities:

The key is to be relaxed… but not too relaxed. This is technically a work event after all. I’m not talking full suit and tie getup – unless you’re writing a suit and tie blog!

You’re going to be sitting down for long stretches of time so make sure you’re comfortable. Jeans are fine, but keep them neat. Thankfully – unlike our female counterparts – we’re allowed to wear comfy shoes too. But once again, make sure they’re nice. At the very least, check that they go with the rest of your clothes.

Pants Shoes

For tops, shirts are a good start. Check shirts are in at the moment. I’ve also got a couple of darker shirts I’m thinking of packing – they’re great for as (and when) I drop food on myself at one of the tea breaks!

Otherwise, T-shirts are ok, but make sure they’re not the male equivalent of what the Man Repeller would wear. Remember, we’ll be out-numbered at this one, so it’s time to represent!

Tops

I’ll be bringing my favourite blazer jacket as usual. It’s really handy for jazzing up a T-shirt jeans outfit. It also gives you a few more pockets to keep stuff (food?) in.

Don’t forget this ProBlogger’s evening do at Helm Bar has a nautical theme this year. I’m still completely unprepared for this one. Short of cutting off a leg and poking an eye out – things I don’t really want to do – I’m guessing I’ll get some kind of captain’s hat or a skull and cross bones top from somewhere… if you’ve got any ideas, let me know!

As a sidenote, I think I was probably a little heavy-handed in last year’s What to Wear to ProBlogger post. I’d apologise, but I’m still sticking to my guns on a lot of it. :-)

What will you be wearing to this year’s ProBlogger Event? Tell us in the comments!

You’re right, Vanessa! No toilet queues… and so many pot plants to choose from at the QT Gold Coast! ;-)

  • I’m sure you’ll be looking super sharp as ever, Jim. I have absolutely no idea what to wear to the Ahoy themed event, let alone the entire conference…best pull that suitcase out and start packing!

Erk. Packing. Not looking forward to that. This one’s is even trickier because after PB, we’re heading to Brisbane to spend a bit of time with the ever-awesome Nikki, then a few days with my bro. And before that, Chris and I are going glamping on Fraser Island. So I suppose I’d better pack my best gypsy skirts and neckerchiefs… no, I’ve never been glamping before!
Thanks for the vote of confidence though, Sonia. Hope I don’t disappoint!

I’ve got your PB party outfit all sorted! You should go as Popeye… get a white hat, roll up your sleeves, don some faux tattoos, grab your pipe and a bunch of spinach and you’ll be looking all smarty for your nautical party! (Oh and if you want to be really neat, you can take some olive oil!)

Oh, nice idea, Sam! Will go and have a look around for gear! The olive oil bottle might just become a makeshift hipflask on the night!

    Hey Mr Romance,

Do you think anyone would know if I stole your wardrobe tips? I kind of like the long cotton trousers and sneakers more than the flirty things Hannah is recommending my middle aged tooshy slide into. Hello! Side benefit … I could join you around a pot plant and noone would know, except Vanessa. See: http://blog.queensland.com/2014/08/21/what-to-pack-for-a-gold-coast-holiday/
    See you two there,

Yes, Vanessa sees ALL! Ha ha! I’d be honoured with your company, Shelley. Plant pots can get very lonely out there in the dusty corners of the room.

You’re more than welcome to steal my tips – though I think you can pull off a little flirty number if you really wanted!

Can’t wait to see you soon either way

The men of #pbevent shall sing your praises! Or pinch snacks from your blazer pockets.

Look forward to spotting you there – although if all the men wear jeans, checked shirts and Vans, you may be hard to tell apart.

nice one as usual Jim! Just back from shopping myself and you’re pretty much describing what I’ll be in – although the theme night for me is well and truly planned and a little over the top :-)

Now, I know and love your Mrs Romance very much indeed, but if you don’t come and find me at Problogger and give me a big… hello* I will be very sad indeed.

  • I am all about comfortable shoes, and I love the idea of food in pockets. I’m reconsidering my wardrobe choices now – need more pockets.

I am going with the fitted jeans and leather loafers look. It is easy to pull off and I hate bending over to tie my own shoe laces. I admit it…I am lazy.

Ha ha! Nothing wrong with admitting that, Nick! As long as you’re lazy with style, right?!
