What’s your idea of paradise? If it’s an island in the Pacific Ocean with a luxury resort built by a millionaire, then you’ll love Hayman Island.
Hayman is the most northerly of the Whitsunday Islands off the east coast of Australia, overlapping the Great Barrier Reef in Northern Queensland. The resort itself, built by aeronautical millionaire Reg Ansett in the ‘50s, holds the record as Australasia’s most awarded luxury nature-resort.
After a series of transformations, Hayman Island Resort is now a true luxury retreat. Its most recent renovation was in 2011 after a series of tropical cyclones forced the island to close for several months due to extensive damage.
Now, I could waffle on and on about how beautiful this place is, but I think I’ll let the pictures do all the talking.Hayman Island Resort – view from the bar out over the Coral Sea.

Poolside at Hayman Island Resort.
Love the main pool, if you have a room on the ground floor you can swim straight from your balcony!
Or maybe you’d rather swim at the beach instead of the pool? Hayman Island has beautiful beaches and water sports too.
The best way to get to Hayman Island is by helicopter. What a spectacular perspective of the archipelago.
As well as the beach, you can explore the ponds, pools and rainforest on Hayman too.
And you’ll even find a couple of resident swans in the middle of the Whitsundays!
You know you’re arriving in paradise when you see Hayman Island from the air.
